Wintec and Arena are
also members of the Saddlery Brands International Family, which also includes
Bates. They are a well-known Australian company known for making adjustable
gullet saddles with one-of-a-kind CAIR cushion panels. All Purpose,
Showjumping, Eventing, and Dressage are just a few of the disciplines that
Bates offers a selection of saddles for. In order to help you determine whether
the Bates Innova Mono Dressage saddle is ideal for you and your horse, we will
examine it in this post.
What is the Innova Mono Dressage?
The Innova, which
stands for Innovative, is a dressage saddle with a single flap that provides
unparalleled close contact between the rider and the horse. The large external
thigh blocks of the Innova are a popular feature because they provide the rider
with excellent support and comfort.
The Bates Innova Mono
Dressage features the monoflap design, which reduces the bulk between the rider
and horse.
• The
Flexicontourblocs have anatomically contoured exteriors that allow for minor
adjustments for the ideal fit.
• A seat that is deep
and comfortable, allowing the rider to get into the best position.
•Movable ergonomic
stirrup bar which is intended to lessen the mass under the riders leg. By
simply lifting the catch and sliding the bar into the ideal position, this can
be positioned to suit the rider.
• Fluid cushioning in
the panels to distribute weight evenly and eliminate pressure points on your
horse's back. This helps increase blood flow, which enables your horse to
develop more muscles and perform better.
• Quilted panel points
for a snugger fit behind your horse's shoulder
• Arrangement of the Y
girth to enhance saddle stability and, ultimately, horse comfort.
• Oppulence or Luxe
leather choices, both of which convey the highest level of luxury.
What kind of horse is it
suitable for?
The Innova Mono
Dressage saddle performs exceptionally well on horses with fairly flat backs
and low to standard withers.
However, the Easy
Change Riser Shim system can be used to make minor adjustments to any Bates
saddle, allowing you to achieve the ideal fit by adjusting the saddle by 4 or 8
millimeters.
Here, you can place an
order for the shims for the Easy Change Riser System.
What size seat do you require?
The Bates Innova Mono
Dressage saddle's sizing is a source of confusion for many riders. This is due
to the fact that the saddle comes in sizes 0, 1, or 2.
0 is about 1 = roughly
16.5-17 inches (42-43 cm) 43-44 cm = approximately 17-17.5 inches 17.5 to 18
inches (44 to 46 centimeters), but keep in mind that many riders find the
saddle to be quite large.
When selecting the
size of the saddle to order, there are a few significant factors to take into
account. To begin, how long does your horse's back last? A saddle should not
extend past your horse's 18th triceps vertebrae (also known as T18). Your
horse's saddle support area is located to T18, behind the shoulder blade
(scapula). If you choose a saddle that is too long for your horse, it will
cause lumbar pain and discomfort, which could cause your horse to buck or rear
in pain and not work correctly.
Second, you should think of yourself as a rider. What height are you?
What is your weight? What kind of build are you?
Example: You are
approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall. You typically ride in a 17.5-inch GP saddle
and weigh 10 stone. Because they can come up a little larger, you might find
that the Size 0 of the Bates Innova works better for you.
Of course, riding
preferences also play a role in how much room you want in a saddle and how
securely you want to feel supported.
How wide do you require?
The Bates gullet
gauge, which will tell you the size of the gullet bar you need, can be used to
determine the width your horse requires.
Your Bates gullet
gauge can be ordered here.
What distinguishes the
Bates Artiste Dressage saddle from the Bates Innova Mono? In 2020, Bates
introduced their most recent monoflap dressage saddle; the Dressage saddle by
Bates Artiste.
Bates monoflap dressage saddles with external Flexicontourblocs are the
Artiste and the Innova Mono. So, what distinguishes the two?
The Luxe leather
version of the Artiste is the only one that is available. This leather provides
the rider with a grippy, soft, and supportive feel. The SweetSpot technology in
the Artiste helps you get into the right position, allowing for a longer leg
and perfect alignment for support body balance.
The SynergyPanel, a
low-profile panel design that helps to free up your horse's movements so that
they can perform at their best, is one of the main differences between the
Artiste and the Innova Mono.
For every ride, the
Bates Innova® Mono+ Dressage Saddle provides extremely close contact and a
touch of luxury. Unrivaled feel and connection between you and your horse are
guaranteed by the innovative monoflap design with quilted panel points, a
narrow twist, and a recessed stirrup channel.
This dressage saddle
is made of the best European double-lined Opulence leather, which is known for
being extremely soft, natural, and grippy. It has the FlexiContourbloc and
Adjustable Ergonomic Stirrup Bar for rider customization and the EASY-CHANGETM
Fit Solution for horse fitability. It is built on an Elastiflex Tree. In Bates
performance panels, the CAIR® Cushion system distributes weight; The running
Y-Girthing system provides saddle stability. The saddle's tree can be adjusted
with the third Phillips screwdriver.
Details about the features:
In order to maintain
clearance over the horse's withers, Elastiflex Tree has a rigid head. Every
stride, lateral flexion works with the horse's muscular movements. This tree
has been precisely crafted to be extremely lightweight, symmetrical, and
durable. It is also guaranteed not to break for the duration of the saddle's
life (which is assumed to be ten years under normal riding conditions).
The EASY-CHANGE Gullet
system and the
EASY-CHANGE Riser system make up the EASY-CHANGE Fit Solution. It provides a
comprehensive saddle fitting solution for total horse comfort and rider
tranquility.
Select the ideal neck
width in the Simple CHANGE Neck framework for the pony's ongoing shape and
muscling. With the EASY-CHANGE Riser system, you can make adjustments within
the saddle panels for the best balance and clearance. The saddle can be
tailored to the changing shape of the horse for maximum comfort and performance
because all adjustments are measurable, symmetrical, and completely reversible.
The way that CAIR
cushions within generously sized panels distribute a rider's weight and cushion
a horse's back gives it performance advantages over traditional panel fillings.
Air cushions constantly adapt to the horse's unique conformation and working
muscles as they distribute weight. They help get rid of pressure points and
ensure a close, even contact over a much larger weight-bearing area.
The dynamic nature of
the air ensures that, rather than working against a static medium, it cushions
the horse's back in harmony with the horse's muscles. Additionally, air
provides the highest level of shock absorption, reducing work-related muscle
trauma to the horse.
The horse's back's
weight-bearing surface is maximized by the large saddle panels. Pressure per
square inch is reduced as a result of the optimized area. The panel design
supports the horse's working muscles and makes it possible for the horse's
shoulders to move freely. It also has a wide, even channel.
FlexiContourbloc fits
the rider's leg anatomically, allowing the leg to fit in and behind the block
to support the rider's position for maximum comfort and safety. This block can
move in any direction to match the rider's riding position—forward, backward,
or at an exact angle.
Equine and rider
alignment is made simple by the Adjustable Ergonomic Stirrup Bar. The rider has
complete control over his or her preferred riding position thanks to this
design's ability to adjust the stirrup bar's position.
The Y-Girthing system
makes it possible to make individual adjustments to the horse's conformation.
Because it secures the saddle from both the front and the back, it improves
stability even further.
With QUICK-CHANGE
Girth Points, you can rest assured that the saddle's girth points will always
be adjusted to factory specifications. A saddler or saddle fitter can also
alter this girth system. The one-of-a-kind design makes sure that the girth
points are extremely durable and have a very low profile. This helps the horse
and rider feel closer to each other and makes them feel more comfortable.

Purchase: This item
was purchased from allsaddles.com. He lets you try out various saddles for up
to a month before buying one. Despite the fact that he did not sell the Bates,
I knew it was the saddle for me after trying it twice through another saddle
shop. Prior to selecting the Bates Innova, I must have tried at least 25
saddles. I was only able to get my quarter horse mare to quickly stretch
forward and lift her back with this saddle. She no longer experiences stiffness
during the sit trot, and her topline has significantly improved. I paid $2695.
Likes: I like that I'm in
a good position with this saddle. Other saddles either "trap" me in
the seat or place my leg too far forward. There is plenty of room for me to
move his saddle. I was under the impression that the Cair panels would lessen
the sensitivity of my horse's back, but I actually found that I could use fewer
seat aids and get a better response. This saddle has been used on numerous
trails and is extremely comfortable. I frequently set up small cross rails
during dressage training, and I find that the saddle is fantastic for keeping
me stable without being restricted. Even though I haven't had to change them
out, the gullets that are easy to change out allow for flexibility on other
horses. This is perfect for my thoroughbred gelding and quarter horse mare. The
saddle has a wide gullet, providing ample spine clearance.
Dislikes: During
training, I sometimes have trouble moving my leg forward to emphasize to my
horse that she should move her shoulder out of the way in various movements.
The thigh block stops you from doing your leg movements too much, which is fine
in the show ring but not so great in training.
Quality: Excellent
leather. Leather and stitching have both gone without a hitch for me. It has a
refined appearance thanks to the suede-like material on the block and back of
the cane. well cleans.
Summary: This saddle is highly
recommended by me. Before settling on this purchase, I tried a lot. Before
making the purchase, I spoke with a horse chiropractor, and she told me that,
in her experience, the CAIR panels did not work well with horses' backs. This
has not been my experience at all. I've tried it on several horses, and the
results have been very consistent. Based on how my horse behaves, I determine
how comfortable a saddle is, and this one clearly outperformed the Pessoa,
Passier, Kieffer, and so on.
